Interim leadership
As an experienced interim, I know what works.
Companies hire me to solve problems, create momentum and deliver results.
I'm typically brought in to fix issues: weak demand, poor ROI, unclear positioning, misaligned teams, failing agencies or underperforming channels. I build momentum and prevent strategic drift while settling the team.
Why hire an interim CMO?
It's an established way to bring in leadership quickly without the risk, cost or delay of a permanent appointment. Most interims can start within days and bring fresh, unbiased insight. Good ones challenge assumptions, diagnose problems honestly and stay out of internal politics.
This works particularly well during periods of change, underperformance or uncertainty. What you need now is likely to be different in nine months, and bringing me in buys you time to reduce your hiring risk and get the next permanent hire right.
What you get
Access to my expertise and experience without a long-term commitment:
- Digital transformation
- Brand repositioning
- Go-to-market strategy
- DTC
- CRM
- PE environments
Good interims are judged on outcomes, not tenure. We communicate effectively, prioritise execution, have a measurable impact and leave the function stronger than we found it. I know what sets an interim executive up for success, so you get maximum value. Here's how to set me up for success.
Common questions
What an interim CMO does
An interim CMO joins a business for a defined period as its most senior marketer. I diagnose what's holding marketing back, set direction, lead the team and agencies, and deliver measurable results, usually during transformation, underperformance or a leadership gap.
Sectors I cover
Consumer brands only: retail, hospitality and FMCG. Clients range from national retailers and hospitality groups to FMCG brand portfolios, including private equity-backed businesses.
Working with private equity portfolios
Many of my assignments have been in PE-owned consumer businesses, including leading the marketing workstreams of a value creation plan. I also advise PE firms and investors on commercial due diligence, consumer insight and management assessments.
International work
I've worked across 55 countries in Europe, the Middle East, Asia, North Africa and North America, including multi-market interim CMO assignments spanning 16 European markets.
How long assignments last
Typically six to twelve months. Recent assignments have run from six months on an operating board to a twelve-month interim commercial leadership role.
Interim versus permanent costs
Day rates can look higher than a salary, but they cover costs an employer would normally carry, and an interim avoids recruitment fees, ramp-up time and long-term commitment.
